Organic Bananas

Organic farming means developing a mode of production of fresh fruit and vegetable paying maximum respect to the natural resources, in order to conserve the environment and protect the consumers’ health.
Like all the varieties of fruits and vegetables that are traded the most worldwide, even bananas are cultivated more and more by countries producers that are increasingly sensitive to organic farming and to consumers’ choices: there are more and more fruit and vegetable companies that produce organic bananas, paying maximum respect to the environment and controlling the products used that have to be strictly free from chemical substances. Organic farming is a form of production that is spreading above all in the Dominican Republic, to such an extent that nowadays it is the first country exporter of organic bananas worldwide. Organic farming and also the production of organic bananas, is increasingly part of the consumer's conscience, who is more respectful of the environment and pays more attention in choosing the cultivar.
In cultivating organic bananas, natural organic fertilizers are mainly used, avoiding excessive watering, which would make the fruit less savoury and more subject to deterioration.
There are more and more producers of organic bananas, importers of organic bananas, exporters of organic bananas, wholesalers of organic bananas and retailers of organic bananas that have embraced the methods and the values of organic farming.
Consumers, more and more attentive to the healthiness of fruit and to its properties appreciate this kind of fresh fruit: it is shown by the market that is expanding and by the international productions of the very fresh fruit and vegetable product.
However, cultivating organic bananas gives a new quality element to the consumer, because of the absolute absence of preservatives, which instead are largely used in traditional products to extend their shelf-life. Furthermore, the short die that usually is typical of the production of organic bananas is an important element for the fruit and vegetable companies.
Fruit and vegetable products coming from organic farming are produced using production methods that allow to utilize only substances of natural origins. It is an extremely important step for the consumer, as it outlines the quality of the process and of all the entities involved in the production of bananas, guaranteed by the label of the organic fruit and vegetable product on the international market, with fruit and vegetable companies that produce organic bananas certified according to the norms as to organic farming: the label is thus the “certification” of valid, healthy and higher quality fruit and vegetable products.
Among the varieties of organic bananas available on the world fruit and vegetable market the most known are:

  • BANANA CAVENDISH: this variety of banana, among the most cultivated worldwide, medium-large and with a small plant stem, suits well also to the cultivation that involves organic methods
  • BANANA GRAND NAIN: it is one of the most commonly cultivated and traded variety of banana on the world fruit and vegetable sector; it is also known with the name Chiquita banana, because it is the main variety of banana produced by Chiquita Brands International. Even this kind of fruit and vegetable product suits well to be cultivated using organic methods.
